Foot Conditions

Foot conditions therapy in Wesley Chapel FL

Did you know that 72% of Americans experience foot pain, according to the American Medical Podiatric Association? Foot pain limits your mobility and affects your daily activities. This leads to chronic fatigue, and as a result, you are more likely to suffer from anxiety, depression, and lowered independence. It's like a "Domino effect," where walking difficulties result in pain in the lower back, hips, and knees. As a result, your quality of life gets affected on a daily basis.

What causes foot pain in most adults?

The most common causes of foot pain are Plantar Fasciitis - if you experience sharp pain with the first steps in the morning, you most likely have Plantar Fasciitis. If you're having difficulty finding comfortable, fitting shoes, then you might have Bunions & Hammertoes. Arthritis & aging also affect your joint stiffness and limit mobility. If the pain is persistent   or affects your daily routine, it is recommended to see a podiatrist for tailored care.

Common foot conditions in most adults:

Acute foot pain

Have you recently bent your ankle? Depending on the type of situation, we may be able to offer you a solution to that pain and discomfort. Ankle sprains have 3 different grades, with grade 3 a luxation; with this, you wouldn’t be able to walk, and you will be in excruciating pain; you need an orthopedist or neurosurgeon to check on this as soon as possible to avoid nerve damage or vascular flow occlusion, but if you can stand on your feet, then we may be able to help you.

Acute injuries to the foot are typically more related to damage to the anterior talofibular ligament, which is often because of walking on high heels, running, or walking on unstable surfaces, foot ligament instability, or direct weakness of the intrinsic muscles of the foot.

Chronic foot pain

Are you concerned about an old injury that has now altered your gait, and your feet feel unstable, weak, and/or swollen? Popping or grinding sounds are a typical presentation of an old bone misalignment due to trauma or improper gait cycle.

Is this affecting your ability to walk, run, bike, or just enjoy any activity, making you feel old or sick? We are providing solutions to our community for foot pain. Let us explain more:

The foot have 26 bones, all of them hold together by ligaments; when there is a trauma (even small trauma ones like hitting the night stand in the middle of the night) and you forget about that, then later on you develop weird popping sounds or start walking funny, this is your body creating a compensatory situation to prevent the pain or lack of function, but you can identify the chronicity by the following findings:

⦁ Swollen in the area

⦁ Restricted mobility

⦁ Weakness in certain movements of the foot, most commonly pointing your toes up or the sides of the affected foot compared to the other.

⦁ Grinding/popping sounds.

Understanding Different Types of Foot Pain

Foot pain can happen in different areas of the foot. The cause of the pain usually depends on where the pain is. Things like the shoes you wear, what you do every day, how old you are, how much you weigh, and how healthy you are can all contribute to foot pain. Here is a simple overview of the kinds of foot pain and what might be causing them.

Pain in the Bottom of the Foot or Heel

Pain in the bottom of the foot is very common. It can be caused by things. Some common causes include plantar fasciitis, heel spur syndrome, and metatarsalgia. The exact cause of the pain often depends on where the pain is, your lifestyle habits, such as standing for long hours, being very active, or wearing shoes that do not support your feet well.

Pain in the Ball of the Foot

The ball of the foot is the area below your toes. This area can get irritated or strained easily. One of the causes of this pain is when the bones in this area are not lined up properly. This affects how your weight is distributed when you walk. Many people say this pain feels like they are stepping on a lump. This condition is commonly known as metatarsalgia. Other causes may include stress fractures, shoes that're too tight or do not fit well, and wearing high heels too often.

Pain on the Top of the Foot

Pain on the top of the foot is not as common. It can still be very uncomfortable. People may get irritated joints on the top of the foot. People with arches may get strain in the tendons that run across the top of the foot. In both cases, the problem is usually related to how your foot works or if it is not aligned properly.

Pain on the Side of the Foot

Pain on the side of the foot or ankle is often caused by stress on the bones and joints. This kind of pain is common in people who stand for hours or do activities like running. Wearing shoes can also cause this pain by putting pressure on the sides of the foot. Conditions like bunions, tailor’s bunions, ankle sprains, flat feet, and tendon problems are often connected to this kind of pain. When the bones in the foot are not aligned properly, it can put strain on the joints, muscles, and ligaments.

Pain at the Back of the Foot or Heel

A common cause of pain in the back of the heel is Achilles tendonitis. This happens when the Achilles tendon gets overworked from repeated movement or too much strain. It is often linked to how your foot works or if you have had injuries like ankle sprains in the past. Over time, repeated stress on the foot and ankle can lead to this condition.

In our clinic, we offer customized orthotics that fit your feet tri-dimensionally, allowing us to determine the amount of pronation (Pronation Stability Index) and bilateral leg weight distribution.
